Elections/Volunteers…2008 Officers/Teams are as follows: as always I encourage everyone to “get in the game” and be an active rather than a passive member; this is your club. I like to view most of the positions below as “Teams” rather than just individuals. We are all busy, but everyone can give a little…that said…just because “Elections” are over, doesn’t mean you can’t jump in with anyone listed below to help out.

Workshops/Field Trips is still open for someone to lead. Also, Tina Todd is by herself with Programs…I’d like to see a few more folks step up and help her out. Programs is the hardest position in the club.
President: Rob Perrin (2nd year of two year term)
Vice President: Steve Parrott
Secretary: Melanie Lucky / Tina Todd
Treasurer: Kay Shackelford / Judi Garner
Programs: Tina Todd
Public Relations: Aaron Sanders
Contest Chair: Tina Todd / Melanie Lucky
Baker’s Rack Curator: Harold Perciful
Workshops/Field Trips:
Hospitality: Cathy Coleman / Laura Bell
Webmaster: Shawn Wiley

Club Logo Contest: We’ll vote on a Club Logo at the March meeting. So all you creative types…get to work. J If you have an idea…but not the skill to created it…through it out to the club…there’s probably someone with the skill but no idea.

Club Biz/Contact Cards: Aaron Sanders brought up the idea of a Club Business card. Tina Todd is going to make a few temporary cards for us. Steve Parrott said he can get some made for free once we know what we’d like to have on them. The Club Biz card would have meeting and contact information on them and a place to write in your name and number. We can give them out to folks who are interested in the club.

January Contest: GOOD EATS
Steve Parrott – 1st Place, Rob Perrin – 2nd, John Hillman – 3rd

February’s Contest Theme: MACRO

Note: with any of your images for Show-n-Tell and/or the Contests, jot down the camera info (time of day, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.) so you’ll be able to share with others who are interested.

Program Ideas: One of the biggest challenges for each meeting is a program. Please help Tina this year with ideas…AND helping out on programs. Here are some of the ideas that were shared during January’s meeting:
Photographing Groups
Composition
Photoshop (Elements, CS, Lightroom)
Blue August (someone will have to refresh my memory on this one...I have no idea what it means now.)
Havner’s Frame Shop or Framing
Mid-South Color Labs
“Rules of Photography”
Stock Photography
Child Photography
Wedding Photography
Exposure – understanding what your camera sees and what is does in the various settings
Zoo
Black and White Conversion
Pictography
Understanding your equipment (how to use it – beyond Program mode)
Abstract Photography
Wolf Camera

Also, here are some ideas from the January meeting of the Northwest Tennessee Photography Club….
Black and White tips and tricks
Color Management
Night Photography
Reducing Noise – Low light pictures
Choosing the right lens
Choosing the right flash
Setting up flash, fill flash etc…
Have small groups, who have similar software, work together on laptops.

Show-N-Tell
Sorry, but I didn’t take notes during Show-N-Tell…I was enjoying the show.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, Feb 5th…see you there!

Rob

We had show and tell and voted on the winners of the photo contest of the month: "Black and White" Carl Jernigan received 1st place with his b/w photo of the dock at Maple Creek Lake in Natchez Trace Park. There was a 3-way tie for second place among Judi Garner, John Hillman, and Agnes Lemley.

Don Noll presented a short demonstration of a free program from Google "Picasa 2" This free program can be a valuable asset in organizing all photos on a hard drive. There are also printing options, e-mail options, and some basic photo editing that can be done with this program. Thank you, Don, for demonstrating it for us.

December 2006 Meeting Minutes
December 5, 2006
Our regular meeting room at Regional Hospital

Our annual Christmas party was the focus of our meeting this month. Food catered by the Baker's Rack was delicious and plentiful.

We took time to thank Jeff Roush for all the contributions he has made over the 3 years that this photo club has been in existence.

Rob Perrin, our current president, handed out two sheets for us to consider for the next meeting on January 9, 2007. We need to be thinking about new club officers and what we liked, disliked, and what we would like to do/learn/see next year. As you consider these things, send any thoughts you have to Agnes Lemley clalem@bellsouth.net I will compile them and bring them to the next meeting.

The winner of the photo contest "portraiture" is now posted on the website. Go have a look!

October 2006 Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2006

Thanks to Tina Todd for doing the meeting minutes. Here they are!

The Christmas party will be held at Regional and to be catered by The Bakers Rack. Menus will be brought to the next meeting. We had show and tell. The meeting became a round table discussion. We discussed technical issues, as well as how to improve our photography. Rob brought in his new pretty strobe lights and had information pamphlets on the strobes and lighting techniques as hand outs. At our next meeting, we need to figure out what program we may want to learn about. The photo contest (State Fair) was held and the winners were picked by vote. 1st place: Tina Todd, 2nd place: Judi Garner, 3rd place: Dave Clark. Congratulations everyone! The photo contest for October will be Fall/Harvest. Remember to send your submissions to ttodd@jaxnet.net Only one please, I (Tina) hate trying to pick out your best shot. We will have the voting at the next meeting. Please come, hey come as you are. We don’t care. I’m wearing fuzzy house shoes! Who’s with me?

September 2006 Meeting Minutes
September 5, 2006

The September meeting of the Jackson Photo Club was held at Regional Hospital in our usual meeting room on September 5, 2006.

President, Rob Perrin, opened the meeting with a report on KidsFest. The KidsFest event raised approximately $70,000 of which the Photo Club was able to contribute $500. We will probably not continue our booth next year unless we can come up with a more workable format that will bring in more revenue. Many people are bringing their own digital cameras and are taking pictures of their own.

Rob reminded us about the classes Jeff Roush is conducting at Lambuth. To find out more go to the Lambuth web site.

Our display of pictures at the Baker's Rack is up and looking good. If you have a picture you wish to display there, contact Harold Perciful, our curator, percih@aeneas.net We will be changing the pictures out at least on a monthly basis to keep the display fresh and up-to-date. We may be asking the Baker's Rack to cater our Christmas party this year.

Rob asked for someone to co-ordinate the photo contest that has fallen by the wayside. Tina Todd and Kay Shackelford will head up that undertaking and you will be hearing more soon about this.

After having show and tell, the meeting was adjourned. Many thanks to Cathy Coleman for providing snacks for the meeting.

August 2006 Meeting Minutes
August 1, 2006

President, Rob Perrin opened the meeting at our usual meeting place at Regional Hospital.

The main thrust of the meeting this time is the up-coming KidsFest event. Rob handed out a "KidsFest Checklist" and a sample of the form we will ask parents to fill out in order to obtain a picture of their child. I will include these as attachments with these minutes. In order to cut down on confusion, work, and long lines, we will be burning CD's this time only for those who do not have access to e-mail. Also pictures will be taken only of the children whose parents ask to have one done. There will be 5 characters this year to cover so we needed lots of folks to work. Please see attachment one for details of jobs that need to be done. Don't forget to let Rob know how many tickets you will need for the event by email. photopilot@mountup.us

The new Baker's Rack display was also discussed at length. We should be able to put up our pictures very soon. Please have them nicely framed. They will be displayed on shelves this time. Steve Parrot will make the cards regarding each picture if you e-mail him with the details. He needs the following: Name of photographer, title of picture, size of print, price you wish to charge, e-mail address, and phone number. Steve's e-mail is: luxvivens@charter.net

We ended the meeting with "Show and Tell." Harold Perciful and Cathy Coleman brought pictures for us to view.

July 2006 Meeting Minutes
July 11, 2006

President, Rob Perrin, opened the meeting at our regular meeting room at Regional Hospital.

Tina Todd shared with us her outline and notes from the National Geographic Photographic Workshop in Chicago. She was kind enough to supply a copy of her outline and notes for all the photo club members. Thanks Tina!

Rob then talked briefly about the display that we will have at the new Baker's Rack restaurant in downtown Jackson. He needs volunteers to paint shelves for our display. Steve Parrot will make cards to place on our framed photos. Each member needs to price his/her photo as it is framed and presented at the Baker's Rack. We are not sure when we will be ready to display these. More to follow on this.

We also talked about the upcoming "Kid's Fest" on Saturday, August 26, 2006. Rob stated that we need as many photo club members as possible to work as this is our big money maker and it will be a really busy day. This year we will not make pictures of every child only those whose parents request a picture. All pictures will be e-mailed to those requesting one unless the family does not have internet access. If they do not, a CD will be cut for them to take with them. Steve Parrot has designed a very colorful poster for the event that will be blown up to a large size and displayed at "Kids Fest".

Our next meeting on August 1 will be devoted to finalizing plans for Kids Fest. Please let Rob know via e-mail as soon as possible whether or not you will be able to devote some time to "Kids Fest"

June 2006 Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2006

The monthly meeting was held at Jackson Regional Hospital.

The members present scheduled the next meeting for July 11th, since the first Tuesday falls on July 4th.

Thanks to Harold Perciful for bringing the remaining photos from the old Baker's Rack location. Rob discussed how photos will be presented at the new Baker's Rack location. Photos should be at least 8"x10" and should be framed. The photos will be available for sale to the public, frame and all.

Joe Grace briefly discussed the possibility of setting up a portrait workshop with Bret Christensen of Christensen Photographics. Most of the members present expressed interest, and so Joe will try to contact Mr. Christensen.

Judi Garner, Cathy Coleman, and Steve Parrot brought pictures for show & tell.

The photo booths for this year's Kid's Fest were discussed at length. Problems encountered at last year's event - such as long lines and the time required to burn CD's - were discussed, as well as possible solutions - such as setting up ropes to control lines, getting photos to people over the internet, and having more people helping out. Details will be worked out over the next couple of meetings. We definitely need as many people as possible to help out. Kid's Fest will be on the last Saturday in August (the 26th).

May 2006 Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, May 2, 2006

Rob opened the meeting thanking John Hillman for hosting our last meeting at the Tulip Tree.

Rob asked everyone to brainstorm about new programs for the club. Please let Kay know via email of any suggestions. Kay will be talking with Charlie Havner at Havner's Frame Shoppe about doing a presentation for us on framing, etc. Steve Parrott might be able to do a presentation on retouching in Photoshop. Tina Todd will be in some photography training in a few weeks that she may be able to share with the group. Everyone feel free to make suggestions or comments to either Kay, Harold, or Rob.

KidsFest is in August and much planning will need to be done in order to make it a fabulous success story for the kids.

The Photo Contest needs two volunteers. Ryan Matthews has a new job and is going to school so he needs help with this endeavor. This will add much to our club, so please think about volunteering for this -- it will be fun!

We are taking down the pictures at the Baker's Rack. They are moving to another location in downtown Jackson. Harold is going to take these down starting next week for everyone and will have them for you at the next meeting. Rob said that the next pictures that we put up at the new Baker's Rack should be framed, any color frame. More about Baker's Rack when information is available.

We saw the video produced by Joe Grace from last year's KidsFest. Joe did a wonderful job putting this together. Thanks to all of the photographers, too.

We had a time of sharing photographs and the stories behind them!

Rob mentioned that there is a meeting in Nashville on June 2 of The National Association of Photoshop Professionals. He will be sending out an email on this.

April 2006 Meeting Minutes
April 4, 2006

The monthly meeting of the Jackson Photo Club was held at the Tulip Tree Wedding Chapel. The members enjoyed strolling in the beautiful setting and taking pictures of family members and friends. The grounds were beautiful with Azleas, Dogwood, and Redbud blooming and ducks swimming on the pond. We all enjoyed a potluck meal with Fonda Hillman's famous chocolate cake as one of the desserts. Our thanks to John and Fonda Hillman for their hospitality and letting us share their beautiful grounds and chapel for the evening.

Joe Grace presented some of the pictures from Kids Fest 2005. We are hoping this year to do an even better job with this event that is our money maker for the year.

With that the meeting was adjourned. The May meeting will be held in our normal meeting place at Regional Hospital.

March 2006 Meeting Minutes
March 7, 2006

The regular meeting of the Jackson Photo Club was held in our usual meeting room at Regional Hospital.

Old Business: There was more discussion about the status of member pictures on display at the Baker's Rack downtown. Two members were assigned to look into the problem.

We viewed the entries into the current photoclub photo contest. The theme for this month's contest is "Blue". There was still time for members who did not get their entries in to send them to Ryan Matthews if they so desired. Take your chances, Rob stated, your entries may or may not make it in time.

New Business:
Our meeting for April will be at the tulip tree with John Hillman. Directions on how to get there will be sent before the meeting time. All members can bring a guest or family to this meeting. There will be an opportunity to take pictures.

Thanks to Shawn Wiley who has redesigned and updated our website: www.jacksonphotoclub.org . It looks very professional.

Program:
This month's program was presented by Robert Hill. He passed out a guidesheet to good landscape photography and then presented an intriguing slideshow program on his trip to Patagonia.

We ended with "Show and Tell". We all had a chance to view the latest photos from the Reelfoot trip in the snow and other interesting photos.

February 2006 Meeting Minutes

February 7, 2006

The monthly meeting was called to order by Rob Perrin, Photo Club President, at Wolf Camera on Highland Street.

After welcoming our guests for the evening, Rob asked Kay Crick, Program Chairman, to tell us about the upcoming workshop with Jeff Roush. Kay announced that it will be held on March 4, 2006 and will be an all day event starting at 9:00 am. Jeff will cover a variety of topics including digital file keeping and there will be an opportunity to use the studio lighting for a hands-on photo session. The cost is $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

Rob talked about the possibility of hanging some of our photography works at Cajun Cookers and also stated that the photos we have at the Baker's Rack downtown have not fared well and need repairs and rehanging. Those who have pictures there need to go take a look and see what needs to be done.

Ryan Matthews will be putting together a slide show for our March meeting photo competition. The theme for our first competition will be "Blue". E-mail photos to Ryan at ezekielmania@gmail.com . The photos should be sized for the web.

Rob talked briefly about annual awards for club members to be presented at the Christmas party and also asked for suggestions as to how we can use the money that we have accumulated in our club treasury.

Plans for the Eagle shoot at Reelfoot were finalized with club members interested to meet at Englewood Bapist Church parking lot at 8:00am Saturday, February 11, for the trip to Reelfoot.

Rob then turned the meeting over to Michael Poteet and Jeff Stevens, who demonstrated the machines used in photo development and printing at Wolf Photo. Michael took a Club group picture and presented each member present with a copy to take home. Thanks to Michael and Jeff for an interesting presentation.

Our next meeting will be held in our usual room at Regional Hospital on March 7, 2006 @ 6:30 pm.
